Our students are stronger because of the culture of community developed at Blythewood Middle School.
The Blythewood Story
Blythewood Middle School was created out of the roots of a strong community built on family and core values. Supportive relationships foster a culture of acceptance and excellence among our students, parents, staff, and community. Our school continues to excel through innovation and reflection. We value the past and dedicate ourselves to the future success of our students as we embark upon the Four Squares of Learning, Character, Community & Joy.
Learning: The acquisition of knowledge or skills through experience, study, or by being taught.
Curiosity, inquisitiveness, and the desire to learn are all a natural part of an adolescent's life. At Blythewood Middle School, we love for our students to have an "I wonder" mentality. As they come to us with their questions, we design learning that drives them to discover answers. Through this process, our bonds are strengthened, and individual student needs are met.
Character: The complex attributes that determines a person's moral and ethical actions and reactions.
At Blythewood Middle School, we teach the whole child. We recognize that teaching is more than just fulfilling academic content and therefore, lifeskill training and character lessons are taught and celebrated. We believe our students are richer because of the lifeskills and character lessons that are taught and can therefore contribute more positively to society.
Community: A feeling of fellowship with others, as a result of sharing common attitudes, interests, and goals.
Charged to serve and lead, Blythewood Middle School students reach their highest potential as individuals in an interdependent community. Teachers instill a passion for learning through thoughtful, innovative planning of relevant, rigorous classroom experiences that extend to the community through service projects . Our students further recognize that they are a community of learners as they learn to work collaboratively with their peers to problem solve and innovate. At Blythewood Middle School, our students also learn about community by being presented with numerous opportunities to engage in philanthropic and community service efforts that show support for their fellow man.
Joy: The emotion evoked by well-being, success, or good fortune
Through the deeply ingrained culture of Blythewood Middle School, we lay the groundwork for Joy to flourish. By participating in collaborative and innovative designs, our students move into the future with courage and confidence. Nurtured by the hands of Blythewood Middle School, these future leaders will rise to meet tomorrow's challenges and opportunities with success. With each success, our students are able to find joy.
At Blythewood Middle School, we take time to celebrate our successes and allow our students, faculty and community stakeholders to marvel in the joy! At Blythewood Middle School, we love to ask, “How can we make it better?” Join us on this journey as we continue to embark upon the Four Squares: Learning, Character, Community and Joy.
