Karis Mazyck, Principal
Karis M. Mazyck began her educational career in Richland One as a sixth–grade science teacher at Hand Middle School before becoming an assistant principal. While assistant principal at Hand Middle, she was named the 2010 Assistant Principal of the Year by the S.C. Association of School Administrators. Mazyck went on to become principal at Gadsden Elementary School and led the school to a National Blue Ribbon title. After leaving Gadsden Elementary she served as principal at Bradley Elementary before coming to Blythewood Middle. In 2019, Mrs. Mazyck was a finalist for the state Principal of the Year Award She has served on the board of directors for the South Carolina Association of Middle Level Educators. All of her hard work and committment to our school and students, led her to be named the 2024 Middle Level Principal of the Year by the S.C. Association of School Administrators.
Mazyck earned a Bachelor of Science in biology from the University of South Carolina Aiken and a Master of Public Health in Health Promotion and Education, a Master of Education in Educational Leadership and an Educational Specialist degree in Educational Leadership and Policies from the University of South Carolina.

Cedric Jones, Assistant Principal
Mr. Jones comes to Blythewood Middle School with twenty-one years of experience in education. Mr. Jones began his career at Summit Parkway Middle School as a social studies teacher where he taught sixth, seventh, and eighth grade. He later went on to teach sixth grade social studies at E.L. Wright Middle School prior to coming to Blythewood Middle School. Mr. Jones also spent over twenty years as a varsity football coach in Richland Two with time spent at Spring Valley High School, Richland Northeast High School, Westwood High School, and Blythewood High School.
Mr. Jones earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and a Master of Arts in Teaching from the University of South Carolina, Columbia. Mr. Jones also received a Master of Education in Administration and Supervision from Anderson University.

Brandon Reeder, Assistant Principal
Brandon C. Reeder serves as the sixth-grade Assistant Principal at Blythewood Middle School. He is a native of Blythewood, SC and a proud product of Richland School District 2.
Mr. Reeder began his educational career as a sixth-grade math teacher at Crayton Middle School. He has years of experience as a middle school math teacher, teacher leader, and administrator in Richland 1, Richland 2, and Greenville County Schools. He is a former school-level Teacher of the Year and was most recently named a 2024-2025 SC ASCD/SCATTL Emerging Leader.
Mr. Reeder earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Middle Level Education from Winthrop University and a Master of Education in Educational Administration from the University of South Carolina. A life-long learner, he is currently pursuing an Ed.S. in Educational Leadership - Superintendency from Arkansas State University.

Christy Brown, Assistant Principal
Mrs. Christy Brown began her career in Lexington School District Four where she taught seventh grade English Language Arts for three years. She joined the Richland Two family in 2005 at Dent Middle School. In 2007 she moved to Blythewood Middle School. In her time at BMS she has taught seventh and eighth grade English Language Arts and AVID. In 2016 she was named a district finalist for teacher of the year. In 2020, she became the Technology Learning Coach and transitioned to the Curriculum Effectiveness Specialist role in 2023.
Mrs. Brown earned her Bachelor’s of Arts in Early Childhood Education and Elementary Education from North Greenville College. She earned a Masters of Education and a Masters of Education in Administration and Supervision from Southern Wesleyan University.

Dr. Cheryl Canty, Director of School Counseling
Dr. Cheryl Canty serves at the Director of Counseling and 6th grade counselor for 2025-2026. She graduated from the University of South Carolina with a Bachelors of Science in Psychology, Masters of Education in School Counseling and a Doctorate of Education in Child and Youth Studies from Nova Southeastern University.
The mission of our counselors is to provide every student equitable access to a comprehensive counseling program that will assist all students in becoming successful global citizens who are competitive in the 21st Century.
